Jerry Kaplan is the founder and owner of the EAE group.Jerry Kaplan

Jerry entered the field of math education after spending several years working in private industry as a research mathematician. His early work focused on applying research to the practical needs of the mathematics curriculum and classroom.

Those early years working in schools formed the basis for his thinking and strategies about math teaching and learning. One outcome over 25 years ago was the highly successful Math COACH, a way to teach math in a simple, clear way to a wide spectrum of students. The COACH has had widespread influence on the test prep field, and was a centerpiece of publisher Triumph Learning’s agenda during the No Child Left Behind era. Jerry has applied the same ideas behind the Coach
to the new Common Core State Standards. These Standards represent a major shift in math content and teaching approaches. As consultant to Triumph Learning, Jerry has designed a new series called Common Core Coach that is fully compatible with the Standards. It includes student books, teacher's manuals and an assessment system for Grades 1-8. Beyond this anchor product, he is behind several other initiatives at Triumph Learning to support a variety of students and to enable them to succeed with new assessments.

Jerry is an author of the
Scoring High series for McGraw-Hill, a major textbook series for Harcourt School Publishers, high school texts for SRA, and a management learning system for Random House. He has served as a consultant to Time to Know, Think Through Math, and Mathletics.

Over the years, Jerry has led many workshops, seminars, and classes on how to implement new curricula and models of assessment. Several beneficiaries of his work in these areas have been the US government’s Job Corps Program, the Ford Foundation, ETS, and the Ministry of Education, Israel.

In all Jerry and EAE have developed over 700 books and thousands of electronic lessons for over 10 publishers; created and critiqued curricula for publishers; and served as a consultant to many school districts.

Jerry is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Education at Seton Hall University. Previously, he taught at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the University of Tel Aviv, Israel.
